Zoe Hession is a UK based artist and calligrapher, and is the face behind Artisan Calligraphy. Her enchanting style is a unique reflection of how she views the the world around her.

Zoe was born with a condition called arthrogryposis, and was told by doctors that she would never be able to use her hands or legs. But her overwhelming love for being creative motivated her to dedicate her life to honing in her skill as a portrait artist, which eventually led to her love for writing and calligraphy. Zoe has a fascination with all of the tiniest features that come together to build an individuals face, and she highlights them by using designs and patterns to emphasize their significance and beauty. Her work is characterized by it’s whimsical details, bold lines, and has been described as a “modern surreal take on Art Nouveau”.

Since moving out of the city and into the country in 2023, she has turned to creating vibrant animal portraits that are full of life and energy. She offers a range of original paintings and prints, that can bring a touch of magic to any space.

With the rise of modern technology and computers, the art of handwritten calligraphy is becoming less common. However, there is nothing quite like receiving a hand-written card, or tracing your fingers across a beautifully written page to feel the raised ink on the paper.
